Plumbing Repairs You Should Never Do Yourself

When it comes to home DIY, there are plenty of things you can do yourself. Seasonal home maintenance such as washing windows, cleaning gutters and decorating is ideal work if you love getting your hands dirty, but there are a few things that you should stay well away from. Plumbing is definitely one of them, and there are a few plumbing repairs you should never do yourself. Although you may want to save money with your handyman skills, there are a few jobs that are best left to the professionals.

Extending Hot Water Lines

If you’re working on bathroom or kitchen plumbing repairs or installing a new appliance that requires a hot water line, call in Mr. Plumber to get the job done properly. You need to make sure you adhere to plumbing codes and maintain the correct water pressure throughout, so this isn’t something you should do yourself.

Replacing Sewer Pipes

If your sewage pipes are blocked, do NOT attempt to replace or reroute them yourself. These plumbing repairs jobs are for Mr. Plumber, as you’re dealing with the public water supply and waste water treatment. Qualified plumbers know how to deal with this and will have the equipment needed to deal with the issue properly.

Gas Line Plumbing

When it’s anything to do with gas, don’t even think about trying to do it yourself. Gas fittings need to be installed in a particular way, because a leak could lead to explosive consequences.

Septic Tank Installation

If you live away from the city and on a large plot of land, your waste may flow into a septic tank rather than to the main sewer line. A leak in your septic tank may cause a stench, but that doesn’t mean you should get impatient and tackle it yourself. Call in the professionals if you need help fixing any leaks or problems, as they will know exactly what to look for and what plumbing repairs to do.

Copper Pipe Jobs

Any job that involves welding should be left to a certified plumber. Especially when open flames are involved, as well as a heightened risk of flooding (if you don’t know what you’re doing), this is a job that you definitely shouldn’t do yourself. Besides, the last thing you want to do is start a fire and a major leak!

If in doubt, give us a call and we’ll advise you on your plumbing repairs job and whether it’s safe to do it yourself!
